Isa's week

The line-edits of the first draft are all finished. YAY!!! I'm so happy! Though I can't belive how long it too. It was a whole month just to transfer the changes from paper to computer. Maybe I'll do it on the computer itself next time and use tracking changes in Word.

Now I'm up to the actual changes to the draft. There's a whole scene that I need to move at the end of the book to make the ending stronger, though I've already dropped last bit which wasn't really needed.

The book is also a bit short at this point, just 69,000 words when it really should be at least 80,000. I have to say it does feel a bit 'light' and it could do with some more complexity. I need to add all that stuff before I can consider the 1st draft done.

Also, it's Individual Chic's 3rd birthday today. Yay ^_^.

I did and I feel great about it. Tee hee. Now I need to move onto the re-writes, and I think it will suck. I need to add at least 10K words. GAH!

I know, it is sort of a 5 gallon bucket of suck...you start to get sick of the story, burned out. The lure of a new project starts hollering, looking mighty appetizing.

I start making silly bargains with myself: if I forge on and finish by such and such date I can buy myself a (inset whatever)...it doesn't always work. Sometimes I just have to put it away and not write for a bit. Then come back to it with fresh eyes.
The downside to that though, is that I take a longer break than I promised myself, and it is harder to get back into it. I have to re-read it and reacquaint myself.

That said, your story is a YA novel, yes?
If so, are you sure you really need 10,000 more? Typically, at least with American publishing, they prefer a smaller word count for YA. I'm sure you've researched it, and I don't write YA, so I am no expert on it, for sure. Just checkin'.

Here's to rewrites!

Nope, it's an adult mystery (don't be fooled by the name ^_^) so I need at least another 10k. Standard mystery length is 80-100k (though on the shorter side is probably best for a first novel).
